To install Wanware, perform the following steps:
- Start Installation
- Install Streams
- Install the On-line Manuals
- Install the hardware
- Observe the boot process
- Remove Wanware
- About the On-line Manuals
cd /mnt/cdrom
./install
Most commercial versions of Linux do not include Streams, a package used to implement communications protocol stacks. The Software Group has included a copy of Linux Streams with Wanware. This package can be used to develop your own drivers that depend on Streams.
When Wanware has a binary LiS-package that matches your Linux kernel, the option to install LiS-source will be displayed. You may install this if you wish by selecting 'Y'. If Wanware does not have a binary LiS-package that matches your Linux kernel, LiS-source will automatically be installed on your system. This allows you to run Wanware with updated kernels; it just means that the installation will take a little longer while the LiS source is compiled on the target machine.
Refer to Figure 1 above.
Follow these steps to install the on-line documentation containing the Administrator's Guide, Programmer's Guide, Utilities, Installer's Guide and Hardware Notes.
/usr/share/doc/wanware-version_number>Note: The on-line manuals require a
standard HTML browser to be viewed. These manuals can be copied and viewed
on any computer that has a browser.
Refer to About On-line Manuals for more information.
If you have not already done so, shut down your machine, turn the power off, and open the case so that you can install the communications controller hardware. Once you've installed the adapter (make sure you screw it down so that it doesn't shift when you plug in the cable that connects the controller to the modem or DSU/CSU), reassemble the cabinet and turn the machine on.
Observe the machine when it boots with the hardware installed to make sure that the adapter is found, with a message similar to:
sgp - 15 - 2 port card found at E0000000
If this is not the message you see and there is a problem, technical support should be requested from the organization from which you purchased Wanware.
If you have successfully completed the above steps, Wanware will now be installed. As described at the beginning of this guide, a complete description of the configuration of the adapter-to-network interface is covered in the on-line Administration Guide. For an introduction to this refer to the Link Configuration in the Installer's Guide.
Wanware comes as a series of RPMs. There were three packages installed. To uninstall remove these three RPM packages:
There are also configuration files that were created during the protocol setup, when 'wwconfig' was run. These directories can be left on your system in case Wanware is to be installed again.
These files where created by wwconfig
The following files may have been modified:
There will be some files in the Streams directory:
If Streams was compiled, then there will be object files in this directory.
Streams binaries will have been installed, including the streams drivers, in:
