Initial Configuration

Installing SyncSwitch 1000

Back and Front Plates of SyncSwitch 1000

Ref-1: 100Base-TX and 10Base-T Ethernet connector
Ref-2: Synchronous serial port
Ref-3: DC power adapter connector
Ref-4: Reset to factory default button
Ref-5: Green power light

Connect

1. Connect the DC power adapter to the back of the SyncSwitch 1000. (Ref-3)
2. Plug the DC power adapter into an electrical outlet.
3. The green power light should come on (Ref-5).
4. Connect the SyncSwitch 1000 to the network using a standard Ethernet cable. (Ref-1)
5. Connect the serial cable to the synchronous serial port.(Ref-2)
   Note: The cable type (X.21, V.35 or R-232) will be marked on the back plate beside the port.

Reboot

To perform a reboot of the SyncSwitch 1000 unplug the DC power adapter from the electrical outlet and reconnect after 15 seconds.

Reset to factor defaults

• Power up the SyncSwitch 1000 and let it boot. The boot process requires about 40 seconds.
• Insert a small point (e.g. a paper clip) into the reset hole on the front of the SyncSwitch 1000 box (refer to Ref-4) and press the reset button. You will feel a slight spring action as you release it.
• Wait 15 to 20 seconds to ensure the flash memory is flushed properly.
• Reboot SyncSwitch 1000 (see procedure above) and allow it sufficient time to power up and go through the boot process. The unit will now have the factory default configuration including IP address and administration password.
