packetnets - synchronous networks mapping file
The /etc/packetnets (or %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\drivers\etc\packetnets on Windows) file is used to resolve a network name to a specific link on a communications controller. It is used to map a local network ID to a network ID on a remote server such as a SyncServer. Each line is composed of a primitive and an associated value if appropriate. Each network ID has associated with it rules which tell interested programs about the network. (The X.25 library includes functions to access these fields.) The following are some of the supported fields:
NETID Network ID (introduces each entry) NAME Unique Network Name associated with NETID TYPE Network type (ie. X25, SYNC, FREL, etc.) BRDTYPE Board Type (must be set to TCP) TCPHOST Host name or IP address of the SyncServer TCPNETID Network ID on the SyncServer TCPPPA Physical Point Of Attachment on the SyncServer END Closes each entry
Fields are separated by any number of TAB and/or SPACE characters. Comments, that is, text beginning with a '#', may also be included; characters after a '#' through the end of the line are not interpreted by routines that use this file.
The Windows Client installation has a WIN32 installation script that will create the packenets file in the "C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc" directory and configure the parameters through a configuration program. Refer to the Installation Guide for this procedure.
The Linux Client installation requires manual configuration of the packetnets file. Refer to the Installation Guide for this procedure.
