gentalk(1)

Name

gentalk - make an X.25 call and generate a data pattern

Syntax

gentalk [-n netid | -N netname | -f fep -l link] [-x dev_name] [-d Address] [-s pktsize] [-S bufsize] [-i secs] [-rpD]

Description

gentalk is a testing utility which makes an SVC X.25 call, then becomes a data source for throughput testing purposes. It makes a call with the call user data 1 0 0 0 followed by the ASCII character S.

These command line options are recognized:

Option Description
-n specifies the netid (from /etc/packetnets) to be used for this call.
-N specifies the netname (from /etc/packetnets) to be used for this call.
-f specifies the FEP (Front End Processor) number to make the call on. This option is defaulted to zero.
-l specifies the link number on the FEP for call to go out on. This option is also defaulted to zero.
-x specifies the full path device name to use for the call. Generally, it is preferable to let gentalk pick the next available device.
-d specifies the X.25 Data Network Address to call. Up to 15 digits may be specified. If -d is not specified, "9999" is used.
-s specifies the packet size that will be used for this call. It defaults to the default packet size in the link configuration.
-S specifies the buffer size for the data being sent to the data sink program. It defaults to the packet size.
-i specifies the number of seconds that gentalk should run before exiting. By default, gentalk will run until a key is depressed if stdin is a tty, or until any failure on the virtual circuit.
-r specifies that reverse charging should be used for this call.
-p specifies that the call should be a priority call.
-D specifies that D (deliver confirmation) bits should be used for this call.
