Install Client Software

TSG provides precompiled libraries, for use with Windows and Linux, that will allow you to write protocol-aware applications. These applications will use TCP/IP to communicate with SyncServer, which, in turn, exchanges information with an X.25, LAPB or other synchronous device connected directly to or through a network.

For Windows OS with Auto-Run enabled

  1. Insert CD-ROM into CD drive. A list of choices should appear automatically.
  2. Select Install Client Software.
  3. After the software is installed the "SyncServer Network Configuration" screen will open. If this is the first SyncServer you have installed the list will be empty.
  4. Select New.
  5. Type in the Network ID. The Network ID is the local link identifier for a network.
  6. Select the appropriate protocol from the protocol drop-down list.
  7. Type in the SyncServer's IP address or name.
  8. Type in the Server Network ID. The Server ID is the link identifier on the remote SyncServer.
  9. Select OK. The new SyncServer should be added to the list.
  10. Select OK to finish the installation.

The Network ID and the Server Network ID will have the same value unless the local network is pointing to several different SyncServers

For Windows OS with Auto-Run disabled

  1. Browse the CD-ROM and select the file "autorun\launcher.exe" to bring up the autorun install screen (see above for rest of autorun procedure) or run "win32\setup.exe" to install the client and all documentation on to your local machine.
  2. After the software is installed the "SyncServer Network Configuration" screen will open. The list will initially be empty.
  3. Select New.
  4. Type in the Network ID.
  5. Select the appropriate protocol from the drop-down list. Note that this much match the protocol configured for the corresponding link on the SyncServer
  6. Type in the SyncServer's IP address or name.
  7. Type in the Server Network ID.
  8. Select OK. The new SyncServer should be added to the list.
  9. Select OK to finish the installation.

For Linux OS

  1. Mount the CD-ROM: "mount -r /dev/cdrom /mnt/cdrom"
  2. As a non-root user "cd /mnt/cdrom/linux" and run "./install" to start the installation. This will install the client software as well as all documentation into the directory specified.
  3. Run ssconfig when it is offered and edit the configuration as appropriate for your SyncServer. As a minimum, you will need to change the Server from PutServerAddressHere to the real IP address or name for your SyncServer. The TAB key will move you between the various fields.

The program ssconfig, either the Windows or Linux version, can be rerun at any time after installation to modify the configuration.
