Install Client Software Index Appendix

Test Installation

Follow this short procedure to ensure SyncServer 1000 functionality.

Checking the Hardware Installation

Problems

If there is no power to the SyncServer 1000, reseat the power cable, and check for power lights.

Checking the System Configuration

Problems

If there are no frames/bytes being received, check to ensure the attached equipment is transmitting.

When no frames/bytes have been transmitted there is most likely a physical problem. Check the cables. If your links are configured for X.25, you can restart the protocol stack using Restart Software in the left-hand navigation window. If your links are configured for LAPB or Raw Synchronous, you may wish to use TSG-supplied applications to separate link and API debugging.

Checking the Client Installation

For Windows - from the command line type:
cd "C:\Program Files\SyncServer Client\win32"
For Linux - change the directory to:
cd /usr/local/syncserver/bin
(Note that the exact directory location depends on where SyncServer 1000 client was installed)

Each application will attempt to send data across the synchronous link. Depending on the configuration of the connected device, it may reject attempts to communicate with it. For example, the call may be immediately cleared in the case of X.25 or resets may be received in the case of LAPB. However, you should be able to communicate with the SyncServer 1000 and see data in the line trace.

Return codes and problem descriptions

  1. If you get an error "Can't connect to TCP host" then check that the "SyncServer 1000 Network Configuration" is set correctly by running "ssconfig" in this directory.
  2. Link didn't come up (X.25 and LAPB) may show a configuration or cabling problem.
  3. Link is not configured for SVCs (X.25 only). This may be a configuration problem. It is also possible for your configuration to not use SVCs. In this case 'gentalk' cannot be used.
  4. Remote didn't accept the call request (X.25) or resets are received (LAPB). The remote is probably not set up with compatible applications.
