xroute(1)

Name

xroute - NetcomRouter daemon with network routing capabilities

Syntax

xroute [-E timer] [-d] [-g] [-l] [-n] [-p portnum] [-P timer] [-q] [-r] [-R timer] [-s] [-t] [-T rate] [logfile]

Description

xroute is used to build and maintain the NetcomRouter stacks and perform Routing services.

xroute should only be invoked by the system during network startup and killed during network shutdown. Stopping and starting xroute at other times will generally result in the deactivation of NetcomRouter, which requires a full network shutdown followed by network startup to correct.

xroute is invoked by the shell script /etc/xinet.rc during network startup. By default, xroute will not perform any routing services. Routing service support must be added by the System Administrator.

Routing services are supported on SCO and SV4 Unix machines. The routing services include support for the Routing Information Protocol (RIP) over all IP interfaces. The standard RIP protocol (RFC1058) is used over all non-NetcomRouter interfaces and over HDLC only NetcomRouter interfaces. RIP support over X.25 demand circuits conforms to RFC1582.

xroute by default will use udp socket 520 to communicate routing table updates. In a typical system only one application can supply routing information. If the option -r is used on xroute then routed must be disabled.

These command line options are recognized:

Option

Description

-E timer

Triggered Response acknowledgement timer in seconds. This timer is only used over demand circuits. Default is 5 seconds.

-d

Suppress process from becoming a daemon.

-g

used by network routers to advertise a default route.

-l

don't listen to routing information from others

-p portnum

specify port number to use for routing information, default is 520

-P timer

Poll timer in seconds, used to time-out non-responsive hosts. This timer is only used over demand circuits. Default is 60 seconds.

-q

don't supply routing information to others

-r

enable routing functions for LAN and demand circuits

-R timer

Triggered Request acknowledgement timer in seconds. This timer is only used over demand circuits. Default is 5 seconds.

Note: Re-assembly Timer = 4 * Triggered Request acknowledgement timer.

-s

do supply routing information to others [default]

-t

increase trace level

-T rate

specify rate to send out rip packets, default: 30 seconds

logfile

file used to store trace information, use null for none. default: /usr/spool/x25/xroutelog
