vcstat(1)

Name

vcstat - Monitor Virtual Circuit (VC) activity

Syntax

vcstat [-h] [-m] [-d board] [-t time]

Description

vcstat will report and monitor data for VCs. vcstat is able to monitor VCs on all supported boards. It is recommended to set the terminal emulation mode to one supporting IBM graphics character sets (eg. at386). When started, vcstat will present a screen containing four boxes representing the four possible installed boards. All STREAMS links will be combined into one board. The number of active Switched Virtual Circuits (SVCs) and Permanent Virtual Circuits (PVCs) will be displayed on a per link basis. The -t command line option affects at what frequency these numbers are updated.

For further analysis of a specific board select the board by utilizing the TAB or SPACE keys and RETURN or by directly selecting the board with a digit (0-3). A list of active VCs will be displayed and you may choose a specific VC to observe using the UP and DOWN arrow keys and then RETURN. As the VC information is updated, you may obtain a snapshot of the current values by pressing the 'D' key. The information is written to a file called 'chdat'. The 'C' key will write a file called 'cps' in the current directory which contains details of the Call Progress Structure. (This option is not yet available on STREAMS based links.)

The options available at any time will be shown when the '?' key is pressed. At any time, the 'V' key may be pressed to access a specific VC on the currently selected board.

These command line options are recognized:

Option Description
-t time time is the time between polls to the board in tenths of a second. Use -t0 to insert no delay (very CPU intensive)
-m Monochrome Mode. Turns off usage of colours.
-d board Allows the disabling of sampling for specific board(s).
-h provides help on available command line arguments.
